History And Heritage
Let us take you back to 1811 where a local family, the Blathwayts held the first major meet at Bath Racecourse. Imagine yourself a race-goer in the 19th century, donning your flat cap, full hooped skirts and rich embroidered waistcoats challenging the uphill climb of Lansdown Hill in a horse and carriage. Your day’s flutters would be made using your hard-earned crowns and shillings on the finest horses entered from the local training yards, and your winnings spent on the strongest local ale for celebrations.
Bath Racecourse traditionally only held one meet a year, usually over two days and has gradually increased to the action-packed calendar of 23 meets that we host now. Bath’s biggest race during the early centuries was named the Somersetshire Stakes, a race that continues today under the name of the Bath Cup.

“I really enjoy the connection with other members – it’s a lovely community where everyone genuinely wants t help each other. It gives me the space to take a step back from my normal working week and gives me time to think about my business. It’s been great for expanding my networking – particularly the monthly events”
