Around one hundred guests enjoyed an evening of networking and entertainment at the curtain-raiser, and had a chance to look around Bath’s newest collaborative workspace situated in one of the region’s most prestigious sports stadia.

HUB XV turns sports clubs into business hubs by occupying hospitality space that would otherwise go unused during the working week. The result is an attractive open-plan office space in inspirational surroundings where members can work, collaborate and become part of a unique business community.

Following drinks and canapes, Radio Wales DJ and opera singer Wynne Evans took to the stage to introduce fellow HUB XV ambassadors, Lee Mears and Christian Malcolm, and HUB XV CEO, Alix Popham.

Business community

Amid comedy-charged exchanges, the athletes discussed highlights from their careers in sport, and explained what business has to gain from the elite sporting mindset.

Former England, and British & Irish Lions rugby star Lee Mears, said:

“I’m massively passionate about the camaraderie you have when you’re playing in a rugby team…[it’s] second to none.

“By coming up here and being at HUB XV you can be part of that group and feel what that team spirit is like. That sense of camaraderie is a big part of what HUB XV are setting up.”

Mears, who made 42 appearances for his country between 2005 and 2012, also outlined how HUB XV’s emphasis on community is key to building a nourishing environment for professionals whom might otherwise be working in isolation.

Unrivalled support

The significance of support was echoed by former Great Britain sprinter, Christian Malcolm, who made the 200m Olympic finals on two occasions over an illustrious career, despite innumerable setbacks through injury.

The Welsh athlete, who won a string of medals at European and World Championship level, spoke of how his successes would not have been possible were it not for the positive mindset of those around him – a dynamic very much part of the fabric of HUB XV.

Former Wales rugby international and HUB XV CEO, Alix Popham, built upon these points, articulating the benefits HUB XV brings to professionals seeking an edge in business.

“We’ve worked incredibly hard over the last 12 months to turn HUB XV from concept into a world-class collaborative working community. We’re very excited to be officially opening after signing on our first members through the summer.

“Our members can come here, be inspired by their surroundings and feel at home amid a great business network which is only going to grow as more Hubs open in sports stadia across the country.

“Our core values of teamwork, honesty and excellence stem from our rich sports heritage, helping members to acquire elite performance mindsets, expand their networks and achieve their goals.

“The location is perfect too, away from busy city centres but within reaching distance of Bath and Bristol, as well as local and international transport links.”

HUB XV membership also includes access to monthly business seminars, complimentary tickets to sporting events, an online community, special deals and discounts, complimentary refreshments, and much more.

Following the on-stage interviews, the night was wrapped up with more networking as the HUB XV ambassadors mingled with business owners, professionals, and members of local media from across the Somerset region.

Also in attendance was Total Guide to Bath who took some great photos of the launch, viewable here.
