Rugby is famed for the support that binds its people, teams and communities. This support is integral to our successes, but just as importantly, it means we’re there for one another when challenges arise.
HUB XV is no different, which is why we are proud to partner with the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, a registered charity which raises funds to support research into Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
One of rugby’s biggest personalities
A former international rugby player, Doddie Weir represented Scotland 61 times and played a pivotal role in the British & Irish Lions’ victorious tour to South Africa in 1997. At domestic level, he played for Melrose and Newcastle Falcons.
In June 2017, Doddie revealed he is suffering with MND. The much-loved no.5 who was known for his athleticism and commitment on the field of play is now facing his toughest battle.
Doddie’s response was to reach out to fellow sufferers of this, as yet, incurable disease, by launching the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, in November 2017.
The aims of the foundation are:
- to raise funds to aid research into the causes of Motor Neurone Disease and investigate potential cures.
- to make grants to individuals suffering from MND, to enable them to live as fulfilled a life as possible.
HUB XV pledges to donate 1% of its profits to the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, which will also receive money through raffles, contributions and other fundraising initiatives at our many events.
HUB XV would like to thank its members and associates for their continued support of this worthy cause.
